Q. What is this website for?

A. A funny farm is a place where you can create your own page and add your own art work, poetry, photographs, video to it, and it is a place where you can share your thoughts and experiences, learn about services, support and coping strategies that have worked for others.

Q. What kind of stuff should I post on the blog?

A. We are interested in whatever you have to say- about any activities you have enjoyed, great ideas you have had, even the obstacles you have encountered. It would be great if you add images and sounds too so others can get inspired by your work.

Q. How do I get started?

A. To get started, click on ‘register’ at the bottom of the left hand column and submit your name and your email. You will receive an email message that contains your user name and password and a link to the log in page. Use these to log in.

Q. How do I make a page?

A. Go to the admin area of your blog http://www.afunnyfarm.org.uk/wordpress/wp-admin

You will come to the administrators ‘Dashboard’. On the left hand column, you will see a list of tools. Select ‘Pages’ from the list and then click on ‘Add New ‘ in the list below ‘Pages’. Give your Page a title in the top ‘title’ box, and then add your text in the text box.

Once you have written your Page content, select a Page Parent from the ‘Attributes’ box on the right hand column.

Then Save and Publish: To the right of the Title and Text Box is the publish and save options. You can save and preview the page before publishing. => make sure you publish the page for it to be viewed.

Q. How do I Edit a page?

A. Go to the admin area of your blog http://www.afunnyfarm.org.uk/wordpress/wp-admin

You will come to the administrators ‘Dashboard’. On the left hand column, you will see a list of tools. Select ‘Pages’ from the list. You will see a list of pages that exist on the site. Find the page you want to edit and click on it. If you cant see it in the list, there maybe more pages on the next list page.

Now you can edit your page. Remember to click ‘Update Page’ on the right before you visit the site, or you wont see your changes, and you may loose them.

Q. How do I make a blog post?

A. Go to the admin area of your blog http://www.afunnyfarm.org.uk/wordpress/wp-admin

You will come to the administrators ‘Dashboard’. On the left hand column, you will see a list of tools. Select ‘Posts’ from the list and then click on ‘Add New ‘ in the list below ‘Posts’. Give your Post a title in the top ‘title’ box, and then add your text in the text box.

Insert images, sound and video into your post. Categorise the post if you want people to find it through the menus. Add Tags so that people can find your content via the tag cloud. Then Save and Publish: To the right of the Title and Text Box is the publish and save options. You can save and preview the page before publishing. => make sure you publish the page for it to be viewed.

Q. How do people find my posts?

There are different ways in which your posts can be found, and in which you can help your posts be more easily found. Your posts will automatically appear on the home page as part of the most recent 10 posts, after this it will be archived. You can find the archive navigation in the right hand side bar. Archives are ordered and listed month by month, click on the month you want to see posts from.

You can also find posts by author. Your name will appear in the ‘Contributors’ list in the right hand sidebar once you have successfully published a post. People can click on your name to view all the posts you have written.

You can also add your post to a category and add tags to your post. Adding your post to a category means that it will appear as part of the menu navigation system and people will be able to find it using the drop-down menu lists along the top of the website.

Tags are key words that relate to your post, they are a way for people to find content by subject. Tags on posts join the tags in the tag cloud and are links to posts sharing the same tag. The more posts a tag is added to the larger it becomes in the tag cloud.

Q. How do i add images to my post?

When you have written you post in the text box put the curser where you want the image to be inserted. In the text box tool bar there is a square icon to click on for inserting images, if you hover your mouse over the icon it will tell you which one is for adding images. When you have clicked on the icon a box will appear giving you some options on how to add an image. This box has a slight error and is showing an error message, however it still works, so please be patient and work around it.

You have 3 options. Please choose between ‘Choose File’ or ‘NexGEN Gallery’

If you want to ‘Choose File’ from your computer to upload, click on the ‘Browse…’ button to choose and upload the image from your computer. You can then choose the format for your image from actual size or a thumbnail and you can choose the alignment. Click on the ‘Insert into Post’ button to finish. Images will automatically be resized.

NextGEN Gallery is for choosing images already uploaded to a NextGEN Gallery. (Please read instruction bellow on how to upload images to a gallery) The NextGen Gallery option will ask you to select a gallery from a drop down menu, choose the gallery your image is in then click ‘Select Gallery’. A list of images from that gallery will appear and you can then choose the image you want insert by clicking ‘Show’. You can choose from image actual size or a thumbnail and you can choose the alignment. Click on the ‘Insert into Post’ button to finish.

Q. How do i add images to a gallery?

sign in to the dash board

click on the ‘Gallery’ tab

Click on ‘Add Gallery’

here you can choose a name for your new gallery. Click ‘Add Gallery’ to save your gallery

You have 3 options displayed for uploading images in a gallery:

1. Upload a Zip-file

2.Import image folder

3. upload images

There are already three galleries set up, one for each school. If you have images to add to the school galleries, or to an existing gallery, choose an image up load option by clicking on one of the image upload tabs, on these pages you can then choose a gallery to add your images to from a drop down menu.

Upload your images by clicking the ‘Browse…’ button, this will open a browser so you can navigate through your computer to where your images are.

PlEASE NOTE: the maximum upload limit per upload is 7Mb.

Q. How do I add a gallery or slideshow to a post?

When writing a page/post, you can add the follow code in the text box where you would like images from the NextGEN Gallery to appear in your post. (”id” corresponds to the image, slideshow or gallery you want to add, you can find the image or gallery id by going to the Gallery area and clicking on ‘Manage Galleries’, the gallery id’s are listed 1,2,3 in the left column of the list.)

For a slideshow : We cannot display this gallery

Sound

Q. How do I add sound to a post?

In the text box tool bar there is a music note icon to click on for inserting audio, if you hover your mouse over the icon it will tell you which one is for adding audio. When you have clicked on the icon a box will appear giving you some options on how to add audio. If you have MP3 files you have made on your computer choose the ‘Browser uploader’ link (the ‘Choose files to upload’ button is flash may not always work) Click ‘Browse’ to find your audio track on your computer and then click ‘upload’. This may take a few minutes. Once it has uploaded do not click on ‘insert in to post’, this will mean that people will have to download the file instead of playing it from the browser, instead just click ‘Save’. You will need to add the audio in the ‘Add Media File’ option below the text box. Use the drop-down menu on the ‘Location’ box to choose the file you have just uploaded. If you cannot see it straight away refresh your page and it should appear in the list. You can add a title to the track and then next to ‘Size’ click the ‘Auto Detect’ button. Save your post. Your audio track will appear at the bottom of the post

Video

Q. How do I add a video clip to a post?

Adding your post to a category means that it will appear as part of the menu navigation system and people will be able to find it using the drop-down menu lists along the top of the website.

Q. How do I add my post to a category?

There is a ‘Category’ box underneath the main text box you have just written your post in. To add your post to a category click on one or more of the category list options. Posts are automatically uncategorised by default.

Tags

Tags are key words that relate to you post, they are a way for people to find content by subject. Tags on posts join the tags in the tag cloud and are links to posts sharing the same tag. The more posts a tag is added to the larger it becomes in the tag cloud.

Q. How do I add tags to my post?

Under the text box you have typed your post in there is a ‘TAG’ box. Here you can type in your tag word and click ‘add’. If your tag word has already been added by someone to another post it will automatically appear as an option for you to add, select it and click ‘add’.
